Employees can build useful AI solutions when they have approved tools, practical guidance and clear boundaries. Governance should match the impact of the solution: a personal drafting assistant needs different controls from an agent that updates customer records.
Define three levels of activity:
Make the criteria for moving between these levels explicit. Involve IT or a specialist when a solution gains more users, connects to business systems, performs consequential actions or becomes something the team depends on.
Support this with approved environments, suitable permissions, reusable templates and a simple register of shared solutions. Record who owns each solution, what data it uses and who supports it if the creator changes roles.
Training should cover problem analysis, testing and responsible use alongside building skills. Coaches or AI champions can help employees identify when they need additional support.
RoboRana helps organisations combine employee-led innovation with governance and technical guidance, so useful experiments have a clear route towards sustainable, supported solutions.
