Turning scattered ideas into a strategic roadmap

Mourik is a leading industrial service provider with highly complex operational processes and multiple support systems. In an organization of this scale and ambition, ideas naturally bubble up in every department. Repetitive work that could be automated, data that needs structuring, … all worthwhile efforts, but how do you keep track of them? We helped Mourik build a structured way forward.

Challenge

In Mourik’s case, the challenge certainly wasn't a lack of ideas. In fact, like many large industrial companies they had multiple digital improvement initiatives running side-by-side. However, several processes still relied on a mix of local Excel sheets, emails, manual verification, and standalone SharePoint lists.

This led to fragmented communication, redundant data entry, and a high dependency on individual team members' knowledge. Without a centralized view, prioritizing these requests was difficult. Mourik needed a structured way to evaluate and execute their automation roadmap.

‍

Solution

Our experts worked closely with Mourik to set up a way of working that combined discovery, process analysis, and agile delivery. Instead of treating automation as just another one-off IT project, we co-created a method of optimizing processes in three phases.

  1. In the process mapping and discovery phase, we joined Mourik’s operational and support teams to map key processes and find bottlenecks across their ERP, SharePoint, Power Platform, and other legacy applications. For example:
    • Digitizing and automating credit card and expense processes
    • Simplifying how temp agency hours are logged and verified.
    • Centralizing SharePoint lists to track commercial and operational tasks.
    • Automating cost allocations to streamline financial tracking.
  2. After capturing all the ideas, we prioritized them in a visual roadmap. This shows the differences between quick wins, larger optimizations and more complex cases at a glance.
  3. With the roadmap completed, we established a structured delivery model using short sprints. Through continuous backlog refinement and regular check-ins with business owners, we made sure that every build matched the bigger picture.

Impact

With their new methodology, Mourik can go from idea to implementation faster without losing sight of the bigger picture. By linking quick wins to a clear roadmap and structured governance, they have more control over priorities, capacity, and the expected impact of new ideas.

For us, this is exactly what modern automation is about! Not just building workflows, but working together to decide where automation adds real value, and how to scale that value over time.

Details

To keep maintenance simple, the solutions rely on Mourik’s existing systems, like SharePoint and Power Platform. By using native integrations, we avoided custom development where possible. In the next steps, we’ll focus on refining backlog governance and exploring smart document validation tools.
